12 24 12 Merry Christmas – A cool little Xmas eve story :)

Tuesday, December 25th, 2012

IMAG0801Pretty cool and different musical Christmas Eve!

Been at The Drum Studio all day painting the lobby, clearing out some clutter and boy its looking really great. But wait that’s not the cool part!! A previous drum student and Drum Studio All Star who is home from college, has been recording one song, all day here at The Drum Studio. Using Logic Pro9 he started by creating the song on acoustic guitar, then proceeded to track drums (6 mic’s on my Gretsch new classic’s), bass guitar (using my MusicMan), piano, a killer lead solo (on my Jackson soloist), cool synth sounds (using my Dad’s Korg) and right now (yes still here) he has written the lyrics and now tracking vocals. This young artistic musician chose this as the Christmas present to his family. The song has reminded me of, in no particular order, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Weezer, The Beatles, Radiohead and Mr. Big. I thought how cool of a present this is; your child is creating a song just for you. All the work you hear is invisible but it’s amazing. He’s agonized, criticized and over analyzed all day long, committed to a solid final product all the while having a blast. And it sounds great!!. I will post the song and some pix after he presents it to his family tomorrow.

–Merry Christmas to all–

– Sandi, Bembe’ and Mambo 🙂
